There is a convenient tool available that allows anyone with basic computer skills to recover files from a computer that no longer boots into windows. If your computer is giving you errors and not booting into windows, simply follow these instructions.
Find a copy of ERD (emergency recovery disk) commander and be sure it is on a bootable cd/dvd.
Boot your faulty computer up and be sure to boot into your cdrom drive. This can typically be done by simply selecting "boot options" by pressing f2,f8, etc during the first few seconds. ERD will take about 10 minutes to boot completely and if you receive an error that networking could not be configure...simply press ok and move on. Once booted into ERD commander you will be in a Windows like setting and you can dig through the menus to find the files on your old drive.
Good luck
